Candle Care

Follow these simple candle care tips to get the best performance out of your Candle Freak candle

Allow Enough Time (so you avoid tunnelling)

Please ensure that you allow enough time when you light your candle to ensure that you get a full 'melt pool' meaning that the wax melts right to the edges of the container.

Allowing a full melt pool will guarantee an even burn and maximum fragrance throw.

Our Medium and Large Geo jars or our Luxury Embossed Candle Tins, could take around 3-4 hours to burn right out.

Candles have a memory and are quite temperamental, if you do extinguish your candle before it has had time to burn out to the edges, the candle will keep its memory and only burn out that far again. This is called tunnelling.

Please please please try to avoid this, as you will not get the full use or burn time out of your candle before the wick burns down.

Light ALL your wicks

If you have purchased (or lucky enough to be gifted) one of our multi-wick candles it is REALLY important that you light ALL of the wicks EVERY time that you burn your candle.

It is a common misconception with multi-wick candles that only lighting one wick will give you a longer burn time, this coudn't be further from the truth.

Our multi-wick candles are our largest candles and are tested and poured with 2-3 wicks so that they generate enough heat to get a full 'melt pool' (see above) as the heat generated from 1 wick doesn't burn strong enough.

ALL the wicks MUST be lit at the same time to ensure that the candle will burn evenly and to its fullest extent - so that you also get the maximum burn time and enjoyment out of your candle.

Trimming the Wick

We use CDN natural cotton wicks which are Zinc and Lead free. in the majority of our candles. (we are starting to introduce wood wicks in some of our luxury candles) The cotton wicks have a paper braid style and are designed to ‘self trim’ by bending at the tip while burning - this can look like a mushroom top.

It is good practice to always trim the wick to approx. 0.6cm or just below the burnt wick mushroom top before you relight your candle. This will prevent the wick from smoking or sparking and only trim the wick when the candle has completely cooled.

It's really important however to not to trim the wick too short, if this happens, it will result in the wick producing a small flame which won't be strong enough to melt the wax to the edges of the container and you will get tunnelling (see above)

General Candle Safety

All of our Candle Freak candles come with a handy Candle Information card and also come with a warning label on the base, please read both of these before burning your candle.

Never leave a burning candle unattended and keep lit candles out of the reach of children and pets.

Remove all packaging

Please remember, candles must be burned away from drafts and on a stable heat resistant surface. Never burn your candle on or near anything flammable, or for more than 3-4 hours at a time.

Discontinue burning when approx. 1cm of wax remains.

Keep candles out of direct sunlight and do not store in temperatures over 80 degrees.

Never touch a burning candle or move a votive or container candle when the wax is liquid.

Make sure a candle is completely extinguished and the wick ember is no longer glowing before leaving the room.

Extinguish a candle if it smokes, flickers repeatedly, or the flame becomes too high.
